Heavy pull of tide makes your nipples hard;
suck of abyss on your lips like grindstones.

Others have been worn down by flood, reward
for all perverse natures—we know that bones

cannot last. Already this bouldered beach
has been scoured, cliffs swallowed. In a year

all this will be gone. Let tide-water teach
you all that you need to know. Do not fear

drowning, just love perversion. When you flip
your skirt up on hands and knees, when each wave

pounds your cervix, when your mouth gapes in faint
cool groans and your drool seeps onto salt-tip

stones. Then, perhaps, you’ll learn to misbehave,
as the waves do, without shame or restraint.

And I have loved thee, Ocean! and my joy
Of youthful sports was on thy breast to be
Borne like thy bubbles, onward: from a boy
I wantoned with thy breakers — they to me
Were a delight; and if the freshening sea
Made them a terror — ’twas a pleasing fear,
For I was as it were a child of thee,
And trusted to thy billows far and near,
And laid my hand upon thy mane — as I do here.

I read these waters. The hoarse Hebrides;
the sun-blind surges of El Salvador;
Bermuda’s coral reefs; Dublin’s rock skerries.
I’m the middle between the void and shore.
Far out from in the waves comes the reply.
Mist of sundown rises, stretches away
across the horizon and distant sky.
Reading waves is like talking to Yahweh,
grumpy old man. I draw in the sea, shreds
of speech that wash away. I take sea-weed
off rocks, blood kelp, make them my natty dreads.
A spar is my staff. I am a half-breed;
boyish sea hag; living a life devoid
of words, either on shore or in the void.

your witching spot

your witching spot

Yesterday
I salted
your mouth.
Today there is
a warm, briny
sea
between your legs
as you float,
soothed
by the kiss
of ripples
across
upturned nipples.
Your thatch
of hair a bed
of kelp.
Skinny dipping
near Santa Cruz,
the sea
shimmering
through you,
waves lapping
at your clit
just like I did.
And at each silk-
like stroke
you thrust
your ass up,
heave your hips
out of the water,
as if I were still
with you,
guiding
my tongue
to your witching
spot, as if
you were a sea witch
and all the ocean
your lover.

Que todos tenemos

nuestros barcos en el mar.

Nosotros les enviamos

a través de las profundidades.

Como el deseo.

Algunos han cruzado la marea.

Algunos son desmanteladas.

Otros están perdidos

en una noche sin estrellas.

Érase una vez, usted navegó

a tierras extranjeras.

Yo odio tu indiferencia.

No hay cartas que ha enviado

desde cualquier puerto.

¿Cree que es inteligente?

Soy una bruja que puede

superar el viento.

(We all have our ships at sea. We send them across the depths. Like desire. Some have crossed the tide. Some are dismantled. Others are lost in a starless night. Once upon a time you sailed to foreign lands. I hate your indifference. No letters sent from any port. Do you think that’s clever? I’m a witch who can overcome the wind.)

Esta muertos

marea baja.

Yo he sido vagando

esta costa para siempre.

El grito de las aves

vivas en las dunas.

Un resplandor silenciado.

La playa. La madera

de deriva. La lechuga

de mar reseco.

Este dolor es amplia

y solitaria. Y yo

también lo soy.

(This dead low tide. I’ve been wandering this coast forever. The cry of the birds living in the dunes. A muted glow. The beach. The driftwood. The withered sea lettuce. This pain is broad and solitary. And I am too.)
