75% of erotica bores because it follows only two paths, be the one in peace with your orgasm, be the third path, erotica is spirituality, quote unquote

there are two kinds of erotic poets: those who write to brag and those who write to scream … be neither.

moby dick in drag [review]

it's the sear's catalog of literature, it's vaguely homoerotic, Moby Dick is a drag, review, there's endless chapters about knots and blubber and fuck all

Personally
I could never understand why Melville took a perfectly good 120 page
guide to sailor’s knots and the best use of sperm whale blubber and fucked it up with a narrative that simply gets in the way of what
this book is really about: a guide to everything whale-y.

It has chapters with titles like, “Chapter 57:
Of Whales in Paint; In Teeth; In Wood; In Sheet-Iron; In Stone; In
Mountains; In Stars.“
And then you read it and sure enough it
talk exactly about that! That’s why it is so great, it’s so ubber that post-modern critics have been mistaking it for literature ever since
1938. Ok, I won’t give away what happens in “Chapter 73: Stubb and
Flask Kill a Right Whale; and Then Have a Talk Over Him,”
but it
involves a nautical superstition that says a whaler ship with a cut-off
sperm whale’s head stuck on her starboard side and a cut-off right
whale’s head stuck on her larboard will never capsize … which has
absolutely no relevance to the rest of the story but this book is
full such (dare I say it?) red herrings.

But again, I can understand
if readers want to skip over the vague, homoerotic story in the beginning about
Ishmael and Queequeg sharing a wedding bed and jump right to “Chapter 94: A Squeeze of
the Hand,“
where Ishmael is carried away with enthusiasm for the
“sweet and unctuous” spermaceti cut out of the heads of
whales, requiring the sailors to sit on deck, all day long, squeezing
it back into liquid form. There is nothing vague about that at all.

I like my own poems, Jack Grapers, quote unquote

I like my own poems best. I quote from them from time to time saying, ‘a poet once said,’ and then follow up with a line or two from one of my own poems appropriate to the event. How those lines sing! All that wisdom and beauty! Why it tickles my ass off its spine.

In those days, I didn’t understand anything. I should have judged her according to her actions, not her words. She perfumed my planet and lit up my life. I should never have run away! I ought to have realized the tenderness underlying her silly pretensions. Flowers are so contradictory! But I was too young to know how to love her.

A whole world denied to me, poetryslutsunited, quote unquote, thoughts on the craft, what makes it erotic

It’s not the obvious that I get excited over, it’s the hint of what I can’t have. Catching someone’s eye in a crowd is a great turn-on because two lives are momentarily rubbing against each other — whole worlds of pleasure could unfold between them — but it would be much harder to pull off, much more dangerous. The suggestion of a thong under baggy jeans. The swinging of breasts under a loose tank top. The marks of tattoo barely seen indicating the curve of a stranger’s ass. That’s what makes it erotic; everything I can’t have but want. A whole world denied to me, leaving me hungry, famished, alive.

Japanese courtesan, Kasannoin, perversion is the most important thing between heaven and hell, poetryslutsunited, quote unquote, without transgression there can be no wisdom

I know that perversion is the most important thing between heaven and hell. Greater than uninspired love, greater than sterile death, greater even than the insights both bring about. For without transgression there can be no wisdom. Without debauchery there can be no compassion. Without the drunken revelry there can be no sobriety. And without any of these, all of life, and indeed, all those who have ever lived it, are a tedious lot of old men, indeed.

Kasannoin (Japanese courtesan, 1477)
