Young Boy Practicing with Palio Flag:
The Palio of Siena (known locally simply as Il Palio) is a bareback horse race that is held twice each year, composed of rival contrade (neighborhoods). The race is over 500 years old and the flags and costumes used date back to a time when the various contrade were at war with each other. Little children learn how to twirl and toss the flags, as this young boy was doing. He is part of the Aquila, or Eagle, contrade.
